Since stormy weathers and the fact that my flight is way later than I thought it would be, here's something to tide you over until I return.
One of our girls is a Girl Scout troop leader, so that means we get tons of Girl Scout cookies every month or so. After sampling pretty much all of them, I've decided that their Cafe Cookies are the best. The worst is a tie between the ones with coconut on them and the lemon ones.
The only problem I've had is that once I start eating them, I can't stop. I can take down a whole sleeve in about 20 minutes. And that isn't healthy.
On another note, thundertorms are weird in Baghdad. We just had one and it was just bizarre. It poured for about ten minutes, and whole sky was just orange from all the dust. Of course the whole day was overcast like that, but it's ten times worse when it rains.
I'll be going on another trip tomorrow. Should be gone a few days, and probably won't have internet access.
Also that "Clipboard Story" I teased yesterday is going to have to wait a bit, it's late and I've got to get up early.
One more thing, if you look at any previous posts, you'll notice the formating on them is all fucked up. That's because I did move to wordpress.com, and it's auto-import did that to everything. But, once I got to wordpress.com I realized it sucked. Which is why I went ahead and decided on paying for hosting and using real wordpress. I'm still waiting for the host to confirm everything, then I'll be diving headfirst into something I have no clue about and probably have no business doing.
Later.
It's decided. I'm leaving Blogger.
DreamHost is the host I chose. I got a really good domain name, too. In fact it's pretty much the one I wanted. I still have to wait a day for the "new DNS information to propagate across the whole Internet." As soon as that happens I should be good to go.
I'll let you know more as it develops.
Stay tuned tomorrow for "The Clipboard Story."
This is the second and last part of the "Letters to Bobby" series. Maily because after reading them again, there wasn't much other good stuff. Go here to read the first one.
Sgt. Bobby, Thank you for helping our world because if something goes wrong they will fight for what is right or wrong. Love, Stephanie
My assignment the last couple of days has been to cover the emergency room of the hospital here in the green zone. That's where they bring people when they need more help than they can get at their local clinics and such. It's a really great thing they do, because they help more than just our American servicemen and women, but the coalition forces, Iraqi police, soldiers and civilians. The first day was a bust in a story telling sense. They had a British contractor come in with chest pains, so no real story there. I did go around to the surgery section and ICU and got a little footage. In surgery they were sewing up an Iraqi soldier who got shot in the leg. The second day things got way worse. I'm not going to go into any more detail than that. I think it would be more info than I need to put on a blog. Let's just say it hit me a little closer to home than an Iraqi could have. I will say it wasn't a death, just to clear that up. I have started a bit of a debate at our station. In my story I want to show as much as I can about what happened. That means blood. And not a little. Since our news director is out on a mission, and our station managers are on leave, our senior editor is the final say. I don't think he's going to like what I use, becuase I want to show what really happened. That means blood. I think he wants me to sugarcoat the story because he doesn't want to look at blood. Believe me, I know there's a line, but I'm going to get as close to that line as I can. I don't think I would be doing those doctors and nurses justice if I didn't. Even they say what I saw was nothing compared to other injuries they've had. Sorry if this was a downer post, but it's just something I needed to get out.
So. I got tagged byAsh. It's called "Six Interesting Facts." Let the fun begin. 1. I used to be a very good trumpet player and wanted to make a career out of it. But, I could never find any other trumpet players I liked to listen to. I tried Wynton Marsalis, Maynard Ferguson, the guy from Conan O'Brien, Al Chez (David Letterman), Dizzy Gilespi, Chuck Mangioni, Arturo Sandoval. None of played like I wanted to play, so I just gave up. 2. I have a huge scar on my left forearm from when I had a tumor when I was a baby. 3. I think the funniest thing in the world is when a child cries. 4. I think I'm the worst soldier since Jerry Garcia. (Well, except for the doing drugs and getting arrested part) 5. As much shit as I get about being from Arkansas, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. 6. I want to start a CAKE tribute band when I get home. That's it. It's all you're getting out of me now. Kiss that legit post I was working on good-bye. I'm tired now, and I tag no one.
Here's a little time waster that came off of MySpace.
Go to wikipedia.org type in the month and day of your birth (no year!!) and post one fact, one birth and one death.
For example:
Cody-March 26
Fact -- 1999 - A jury in Michigan finds Dr. Jack Kevorkian guilty of second-degree murder for administering a lethal injection to a terminally ill man
Birth -- 1948 - Steven Tyler, American musician (Aerosmith)
Death -- 1997 - Marshall Applewhite, American cult leader (b. 1931)
So, that's your assignment. Remember, the weirder the better.
Welcome to the new look of Dissing Your Dog. I broke down and found another templete somewhere on the web, and it looks pretty good. You can find the link to the site at the bottom of the page. The template was self explanitory and had big labels to let me know where to put stuff like links and the picture at the top. That's pretty much the only thing that's mine on the site. Of course now I spent about an hour on it, and I already want to change it. Go figure.
Ok, so I've reached the point where I don't like blogger. I like that it's free, but I'm tired of seeing my template over and over again on other blogs. I bought an HTML book, and am currently making my way through it, but I'm not sure if it's a good book for a hobby blogger who just wants to make his page stand out a bit more. I also have Adobe GoLive, but I don't have a clue how to use it. I threw my blogger template in there, and it loaded (except for the stuff it needed to link on the web) just fine, but since I don't know how to use GoLive, I just kinda gave up. Any advice? Sorry if I'm not too clear, it's late (where I am).
I'm listening to the new David Gilmour album. It's pretty much a Pink Floyd album without the rest of the band. I feel I should have done some drugs before starting. So far it's pretty good, though.
I'm really digging the track "Then I Close My Eyes." It starts off with some underwater banjo, and I'm a sucker for some banjo.
This is my 100th post, so you should leave a comment, give me a thumbs up on Blogmad, and give me a 10 on Varb. If this were your 100th post, I'd sure do the same.
Sometimes it's really good to have a friend who will be honest with you. I've been pretty mad about stuff at work, and went to Laurell to complain. Instead of taking my side, she pretty much told me to stop being a baby and deal with it. I was pretty mad at her for a while, but I thought about it after I got back to my room, and she was right. Enough of that sappy crap. last.fm is my new addiction. It pretty much takes the songs I'm listening to and shows anyone who wants to see. Also, it fills that gray doo-hicky on the right. Since I got it while I was at home, and didn't have all my music on the old, dead laptop the charts are a little inaccurate. I don't really listen to that much "Weird Al." I watched a terrible movie the other day called "What the bleep do we know." In a weird cooincidence, my friend Marshall watched it the same night. His review is way better than mine could ever be, so go read it.
Bobby is one of the other broadcasters I work with. His daughter's class sent him a bunch of letters, and some of them are quite funny. So, I'm going to do a little series featuring some of the really funny ones.
Dear Sgt. Robert S., My name is Jason and I am in Jenn's class. I like to play my game and fight. I am a nice kid. Truely, JasonI'm not really sure how old these kids are, maybe around 10 or 11. But it's really funny how sincere these kids are. More to come.
Still in Kuwait. Probably be here all day. But, the longer I'm here, the less time I'll be in Baghdad. I wish I had more to write about, but that's pretty much it. A woman made my mom cry at the airport. Not in a mean way, in a nice way. Tetris DS is still fun. I can't get to Nicole's blog because of some web filter program. Maybe I can still get to Hammer's? Wait, I need the link from Nicole's. Drat. This sucks. Oh, it's "Do a shot for Cody" day over at Tara's. Or, it will be when your part of the world hits April 8th. What sucks is that I won't be able to participate. Double Drat. Ok, I'm running out of time, and I don't want to fork over anymore cash. Later.
I'm in Kuwait. I have to be ready for my next flight in a few hours. This still sucks.
I took yesterday to see my best friend Meagan. We met at a Mexican place we always meet at in Texarkana. The original plan was for her to come up to Arkadoo and spend a day or two, but with school and her new job, it wasn't possible. After we finished lunch we headed over to the mall and just walked around. We were going to take pictures in one of those photo booth things, but it was out of film, so we got chair massages instead. Even though we only get to spend an hour or two with each other ever six months or so, it's always the highlight of my week/month/decade. You should visit her blog, too. She's feeling lonely. Also, visit >;). She's also getting away from the xanga kids table blogging. And finally, this may be my last post in a day or two since my vacation time is up, and I'll be headed back to you know where soon. I just hope I win that BlogMad lottery so I don't have to keep working on getting credits. EDIT: Go here to help out Misty's Relay For Life team. Every bit can help.
Everyone go visit my good friend Misty. She's trying to get away from kiddie blogging at Xanga. So go show her some love.
But, then come back here and show me some love.
Sorry, kids. Yesterday's "I DON'T Heart New Jersey" post was a ruse. My iPod, NDS, and cash are safe with me. The concert was awesome. I missed my flight this morning, and almost had a nervous breakdown because I kept getting passed back and forth between Delta's phone rep and Expedia's phone rep. They both told me the next available flight out of Newark is tomorrow, and neither of them were authorized to make the change. I was seriously going crazy. But then I talked to the ticket counter lady and she got me on a flight to Atlanta (where I am currently) and put me on standby to Little Rock. Now hopefully someone else will miss this flight so I can be home free. And maybe I'll have a zobmie laptop waiting for me. Just hope it doesn't try to eat my brain.
Ok, when I got back to my hotel, someone had broken in and stole my iPod, Nintendo DS, and the bit of cash I had left behind just in case. I'm really pissed right now.
Seriously, this place is great. I'm staying in Jersey, which was cheap, but a mistake since it takes a while to get back and forth. It was about a ten minute walk from my hotel to the ferry, then a ten minute ferry ride, then a ten minute bus ride. So far, I've only walked to Radio City Music Hall to find the place, then came to this internet cafe to blog about my trip so far. And to sit down and cool off a bit. In case you're wondering, "Cody, why are you in New York?" Well, one of my top five favorite bands, Dream Theater, is playing their 20th Anniversary Tour Finale show there. It's probably going to be a three hour show, and they're filming a DVD. So it should be a fun time. Ok, I'm going to hit google maps up and try to find the Ed Sullivan Theater.
