That Legit Post I was Talking About.
My assignment the last couple of days has been to cover the emergency room of the hospital here in the green zone. That's where they bring people when they need more help than they can get at their local clinics and such. It's a really great thing they do, because they help more than just our American servicemen and women, but the coalition forces, Iraqi police, soldiers and civilians. The first day was a bust in a story telling sense. They had a British contractor come in with chest pains, so no real story there. I did go around to the surgery section and ICU and got a little footage. In surgery they were sewing up an Iraqi soldier who got shot in the leg. The second day things got way worse. I'm not going to go into any more detail than that. I think it would be more info than I need to put on a blog. Let's just say it hit me a little closer to home than an Iraqi could have. I will say it wasn't a death, just to clear that up. I have started a bit of a debate at our station. In my story I want to show as much as I can about what happened. That means blood. And not a little. Since our news director is out on a mission, and our station managers are on leave, our senior editor is the final say. I don't think he's going to like what I use, becuase I want to show what really happened. That means blood. I think he wants me to sugarcoat the story because he doesn't want to look at blood. Believe me, I know there's a line, but I'm going to get as close to that line as I can. I don't think I would be doing those doctors and nurses justice if I didn't. Even they say what I saw was nothing compared to other injuries they've had. Sorry if this was a downer post, but it's just something I needed to get out.

hey, that sounds like an exciting assignment. that's one i would have liked to have been there for. i think you're right. it really doesn't give justice to the nurses and doctors. it doesn't really show what they deal with on a daily basis. you can't take away the blood and put smiles on their faces and pretend what they do isn't hard for them to deal with. to me it's like showing war but taking away the guns and showing the soldiers laughing and shaking hands. its not the truth.
